Signing in with Google or a one-time email link
The sign-in methods your organisation can offer, how the email link works, and why some methods are not always available.
This article is for members of an organisation that uses Portava.
In short
- Your organisation chooses which sign-in methods its portal offers.
- An email link works once and expires five minutes after it is sent.
- Google sign-in needs the same email address as your portal account.
Your organisation chooses which sign-in methods its portal offers: a password, a one-time email link, Google, or a mix. If one you expected is missing, it has been switched off.
Email and password
The standard way in. Use Forgot password? if you have forgotten yours.
A one-time email link
If your organisation offers it, enter your email address and choose Email me a sign-in link. The link works once and expires five minutes after it is sent. It signs you in on whichever device you open it on, so do not forward it. If you did not ask for it, ignore it; your account is unchanged.
The message on screen is the same whether or not the address has an account.
Email links are not available once two-factor authentication is on, because a link would bypass your code. Ask for one and you get an email explaining this instead.
Signing in with Google
Choose Continue with Google and sign in with a Google account that uses the same email address as your portal account. Google shares only your name, email address and profile picture. If you already have a password, the two ways in join up as one account once your email address is verified. A Google account with a different address cannot be connected.
You can also connect Google later from Settings, then Account, under Connected accounts, and remove it there. You cannot remove your last way of signing in.
On an organisation's own web address the Google button may be absent; use another method there.
