Showing your events, news and directory on your website

This article is for the administrators who run an organisation's Portava portal.

In short

• Switch on the modules and generate a key under Portal settings, then Integrations, then Website embed.
• The WordPress plugin renders the content with shortcodes, Elementor widgets or blocks, refreshed within about 15 minutes.
• The public sees only public content: business cards, never people, and public prices only.

The portal can feed your organisation’s own website so that events, news and the business directory appear there without anyone copying them across.

Switching it on

Under Portal settings, then Integrations, choose Manage on the Website embed card. Three switches decide what is served:

• Events: your published, publicly visible events. Registration and payment stay on the portal, so visitors click through to book.
• News: every published article, in full. News is members-only on the portal, so your website is where the public reads it. There is no per-article opt-out, so switch this on only when you mean it.
• Business directory: each active business as a card with its name, logo, tagline, industry, town and website. Organisations only, never people. A business can exclude itself from its own record.

Then generate an API key, named for the site using it. The key is shown once, so copy it straight away. To rotate a key safely, generate its replacement first and then revoke the old one. A revoked key stops working within a minute.

The WordPress plugin

Download the plugin from the same panel, install it, and paste the key under Settings, then Portava in your WordPress admin. Test connection confirms it can see your portal and which modules are on. Then add content to any page with a shortcode, a native Elementor widget (free Elementor is enough) or a block editor block from the Portava category. All three render the same cards in your portal’s brand colour.

Turn on content sync in the plugin to keep the content as local WordPress posts that Elementor Pro’s Loop Grid or JetEngine can design over. News needs content sync on, because each article becomes a page hosted on your site.

How fresh it is

The site caches content for about 10 minutes and the portal briefly caches its feed, so a change can take up to about 15 minutes to appear. Flush cached content in the plugin forces a refresh. Anything unpublished or hidden on the portal leaves the site on its next refresh.

What the public can see

Only what the switches serve: no member data, no member pricing, and only public events. Event cards link to the portal to book; directory cards link to each business’s own website. Nothing about your website’s visitors is sent to Portava. The plugin is for WordPress; for another platform, ask the Portava team what is possible.
