Notifications on the portal and your devices
What the bell shows, how to get notifications on your phone or computer, and which emails you can and cannot switch off.
This article is for members of an organisation that uses Portava.
In short
- The bell in the top bar collects mentions, replies, decisions and reminders.
- Device notifications are switched on per device from Settings, then Account.
- Emails about your own account and bookings always send.
The portal reaches you in three ways: the bell, notifications on your devices, and email.
The bell
The bell in the top bar shows a count of what you have not yet seen. Opening it marks everything read. You get a notification when:
- Someone mentions you with @ in a discussion, or replies to one you started.
- Someone comments on an article you wrote, or starts following you.
- An event you are booked on is coming up.
- The organisation asks you to answer a survey.
- A decision is made on something you submitted or applied for, or a moderator acts on something you posted.
Each links to the item it is about, where it still exists. There are no per-type switches for these.
Notifications on your devices
Go to Settings, then Account, and find Notifications on this device. Choose Turn on; your browser asks for permission once. Notifications then reach you even when the portal is closed. Each device is switched on separately.
On an iPhone or iPad, install the portal first (tap Share, then Add to Home Screen) and turn them on from the installed app. If the section is missing, it is not switched on for your portal.
Under Settings, then Notifications, choose which of the organisation's email topics you receive. Those emails also carry Email preferences and Unsubscribe links in their footer.
Emails about your own account always send: sign-in links, password resets, email verification, and anything about a payment or booking.
