Managing your email preferences

Choosing which emails and notifications you receive, and how to unsubscribe without missing what matters.

This article is for members of an organisation that uses Portava.

The portal should only send you things you want. Your preferences control exactly what arrives.

What your portal sends

Emails fall into three groups. The first is things you did, such as booking confirmations and receipts. These always send, because you need them.

The second is things aimed at you, such as replies to your posts and direct messages. The third is things your organisation publishes, such as newsletters, event announcements and news. You choose what you receive from these last two groups.

Choosing what you receive

Go to Settings and open the notifications section. Each type of notification can be switched on or off on its own. You can keep event announcements while muting discussion activity, or the reverse. Changes take effect immediately.

Before you switch everything off, remember that replies and direct messages are other members trying to reach you. Muting those makes the portal quieter but also makes you unreachable. Consider leaving them on and trimming the broadcast emails instead.

Unsubscribing

Every non-essential email includes an unsubscribe link that switches off that type of email for you. Transactional emails, such as confirmations and receipts, cannot be unsubscribed from. They are records of things you have done.
