Guest access: what it includes and when it ends
What a guest can do in the portal, how you know when your access ends, and how to carry on as a member.
This article is for members of an organisation that uses Portava.
In short
- A guest uses the portal like a member, but access ends on the date the organisation set.
- A reminder email arrives before the end date, seven days beforehand by default.
- To stay on after the end date, ask your organisation to put you on a membership plan.
Some organisations invite people in as guests: free access, sometimes with an end date. If your invitation said you were joining as a guest, this is what that means.
What you can do
While your access lasts, you use the portal like any other member. You appear in the directory, receive the organisation's emails, and can take part in discussions. Guests can usually post news and insights too, though not suggest events unless your organisation allows it.
A guest holds no membership plan and pays nothing, so there is nothing on your Billing page to renew.
When it ends
Your invitation email states your end date, if you have one. You keep access through the whole of that day and lose it at the end of it. A guest with no end date stays until the organisation decides otherwise.
Before the date, the portal sends you one reminder email. By default it arrives seven days before, though your organisation can choose three or fourteen days instead, or switch the reminder off.
After the end date
The next time you sign in you see a page saying your guest access has ended, with the date and how to get in touch. Your profile, posts and saved items are kept; you just cannot get in.
Carrying on as a member
You cannot rejoin through the public join page, because your account already belongs to the portal. Instead, ask your organisation. They can put you on a membership plan, which reopens your access straight away, or extend your guest access to a later date.
