Web addresses and custom domains
Your portal lives at app.portava.ai followed by its name. A custom domain such as members.yourdomain is an extra set up by the Portava team.

Every portal has a web address from the day it is created. Organisations that want their own can have one, set up by the Portava team.
The standard address
Your portal lives at app.portava.ai followed by your portal's name. It is set when your portal is created, and it is the address used in the emails Portava sends on your behalf.
A custom domain
A custom domain, for example members.yourdomain, is an extra. If it is part of your agreement:
- The Portava team attaches the domain and emails your IT provider the record to publish: one DNS record, a CNAME, pointing your subdomain at Portava. If your domain already restricts who may issue certificates, a second record permitting the certificate is needed too. The email names both.
- Once the record is live, we verify it, a certificate is issued and members can sign in on your domain.
- The standard address keeps working throughout, so nothing breaks while the change is made.
We recommend a subdomain rather than a bare domain. A bare domain cannot use a CNAME, and whether it can be pointed at Portava depends on your DNS provider.
Google sign-in on a custom domain
Google only completes a sign-in on an address it has been told about. Portava registers your domain with Google and switches the button on for it. Until that step is done, Google sign-in is offered on the standard address only.
